Woolly Day
April 13

Sheep shearing, spinning, weaving, cooking, gardening, and activities relating to springtime on a farm.  Tour the historic site and visit with the Cobbs as they celebrate the passing of the harsh winter, and prepare for the new growing season. Time: 11:00 AM- 5:00 PM
Cost: $5.00 for everyone aged five and older.
Group rates are available for groups of twelve or more that make reservations.
Members are admitted free.

Summer Apprentice Day Camp
June - July

Our week-long Summer Apprentice Day Camp lets children aged 8-12 explore life in the 18th century.  Dress in 18th century style clothing and experience the games, chores, arts and crafts of children living over 200 years ago. Space is limited; reservations are required.

The theme for 2013's camp is "Frontier Medicine" You'll cook a "rejuvanating meal", plant and tend vegetables and herbs believed in the 1700s to be medicinal, and have fun with activities exploring early medicine-- before the discovery of germ theory!

Graveyard Tales 
July 13

The Jonesborough Storytellers guild will be weaving tales of spooks and haunts, that will chill your spine, even on a warm summer night.  There will be both traditional and original stories told by members of the guild. Come for a taste of Halloween in July. This is an annual fund-raiser for the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild. For additional information visit the guild's web site at www.storytellersguild.org

Cost: $5 , ages 12 and up (not recommended for children under 12)

Homeschool Days
Monday September 9,16

On September 9 and 16, Rocky Mount Museum will hold its annual "Homeschool Day." This program allows homeschooled children the opportunity to participate in Rocky Mount's Tour and Craft program, which usually requires a "classroom" sized group. The Historic Site will open for Living History Tours of the Cobb house and grounds from 10-4, with a pause for lunch.

Admission is $4 for everyone aged five and older, with a family rate of $20 for families of 6 or more.  (Members $2, family rate of $10.) 

Each craft is $3 per child per session.

Please pick up tickets 30 minutes before their first class. Gates will open at 9:45 to purchase tickets; reservations are forfeit 15 minutes prior to the class time.

 Reservations are highly recommended to assure you get the classes you want.  Register at (423-538-7396) M-F 9-5.  Registration opens in August.  Craft Schedule and more info will be available in August.

An Overmountain Victory
Sept. 24
Living History Tours 2-6, Program 7 PM

In 1780 the Overmountain Men camped on Mr. Cobb's property on the 24th of September on the march to King's Mountain.  Members of the Overmountain Victory Trail Association each year recreate this historic march by traveling in the footsteps of those Overmountain Men from Abingdon, VA to King's Mountain, SC .   Join them around the campfire at 7 PM as they tell the dramatic story of  that historic march of the patriots of our area, including William Cobb and his sons .   There is no admission charge for this program.  Living History Tours will offered free of charge from 2-6 PM on September 24th.

15K Overmountain Victory Run
Oct. 12

The third year for this event, the 15 K Overmountain Men Victory Run is a USATF point-to-point race following the scenic and beautiful Watauga River where 232 years ago, the victorious Overmountain Men marched home after defeating the British at the Battle of Kings Mountain. In addition to the 15K there will be a 3K fitness walk/ fun run. Check back for registration and more information. View a map of the course here.

Spirit of the Harvest
Oct. 19


 

Join the Cobb family and their friends as they celebrate the harvest.  Blacksmiths will be in the blacksmith shop, watch as volunteers and staff make apple butter and apple cider on the historic site.  Storytelling and other activities will take place throughout the day.

A Candlelight walk through the ages honoring the veterans of all wars, and reminding everyone that 'Freedom is never free'

Candlelight Christmas
Dec. 6,7,13,14

Join the Cobb family as they celebrate Christmas in the 18th century, before the heavy commercialization we know today. For the Cobbs 1791 was a special Christmas; Governor Blount has just returned to Rocky Mount, bringing his family from North Carolina. Music, dancing, decorations, and sacred tales will all be part of your experience on this magical candle-lit evening.
Time: Tours begin at 4:30 each night.  The last tour starts at 8:00.
Reservations are highly recommended.
