Education Programs

Rocky Mount offers a variety of educational programming designed to suit the needs of the classroom teacher, and make history come alive for students.  Please contact the Education Director for more information for any of these programs. 

Note for Tennessee public school educators: Tennessee Arts Commission's "Student Ticket Subsidy" program begins taking applications on August 4 in 2015, covering field trips from Sept. 3 2015-May 15 2016 . Rocky Mount's programming does qualify, therefore your school can receive full funding for both admission and transportation to Rocky Mount through this grant program.  Here is more information about the STS program and Rocky Mount's roster listing is found here

Living History Tour

This program offers your group the opportunity to interact with the Cobb family of 1791.  It includes a video orientation and costumed interpretation.  The Living History Tour  accommodates both large and small groups. Usually requires a stay of around 2 hours.

Living History Tour & Craft

The Tour and Craft option allows your students to get hands-on experience with 18th century functional crafts, as well as the Living History Tour described above.  It normally requires 3 1/2 hours and is best suited for groups up to 60 students. Picnic tables or indoor eating area (in inclement weather) are available if you choose to bring a sack lunch.

Preschool Program

Suitable for our youngest visitors this program includes stories and games, a visually oriented "Adventure Tour," a visit with Rocky Mount's farm-yard animals and a take home art project.   You can choose a special emphasis of wool processing or traditional toys.  Requires a stay of 1 1/2 hours. 

Living History Sampler

Samplers are structured to a accommodate very large groups (70 students or more)   As the title suggests, students will get a "sample" of 18th century life and demonstrations.   Requires a stay of 3 to 4 hours.

Kindergarten Program

This program consists of a 3rd person tour of the Cobb farmstead and introductory video, with the emphasis on wool processing  and a visit with the Rocky Mount  farm-yard animals.

Reservations are taken on a first come first served basis. Due to limited program space, please make your reservations well in advance of the date you would like to come. Reservations are available year round and are accepted up to one year in advance.
